About the Tether

Tether (USDT) is a cryptocurrency meant to stay worth one US dollar. Its issuer says it holds a reserve worth a dollar for every tether.

In Iran tether has become one of the most common ways to hold and move dollars, because it transfers quickly and is within reach. Its price here is read from five large Iranian exchanges and taken at the median.

What moves the price

  • The free-market dollar rate in Iran; tether usually trades close to it.
  • Supply and demand on Iranian crypto exchanges, which sometimes put tether a little above or below cash dollars.
  • Access and banking restrictions, which change what it costs to move tomans.

Buying Tether at Sarafi Iranian

  1. 1Buy tether with your toman balance under Buy & sell; the firm price is shown before you confirm.
  2. 2Or buy directly from other customers in the peer-to-peer market, where the seller's tether is held in escrow until the trade ends.
  3. 3When depositing or withdrawing tether, choose the network carefully: sending on the wrong network destroys the funds.

Common questions

Is tether the same as a dollar?

Tether is designed to equal one dollar, but it is not cash and carries risks of its own: it depends on its issuer and moves on blockchain networks.

Is TRC20 better than ERC20?

Both are genuine tether, on different networks. TRC20 is usually cheaper; what matters is that sender and receiver use the same one. Read the guide to tether's networks.

Why does tether's price differ slightly from the dollar's?

Tether trades on crypto exchanges, and supply and demand there sometimes put it a few percent away from cash dollars.

This page explains; it does not advise buying or selling. Prices are free-market rates, and every trade's firm price is shown before you confirm.
