About the US Dollar
The US dollar is the most traded currency in Iran's market, and its free-market rate is the reference many other prices follow — gold and coins, and tether too.
The price here is the free-market rate, gathered from several sources and taken at the median, not the official rate: the official rate is not a price anything actually trades at.
What moves the price
- Political news and sanctions, which change expectations of how much currency will reach the market in the months ahead.
- The country's foreign-currency income, oil sales above all, and how much of it reaches the market.
- Inflation and the expectation of it: when people expect prices to rise, they turn to foreign currency to hold their value.
- Central-bank policy and the official exchange market.

Common questions
Why are the buy and sell prices different?
The difference is the exchange's spread: we sell a little above the market rate and buy a little below it. Every currency's spread is published on the fees page.
How often does the price update?
Rates are read from market sources several times a minute. If the sources disagree widely or stop answering, trading pauses rather than quoting a wrong price.
Is this the official rate?
No. It is the free-market rate — the price things actually change hands at.
This page explains; it does not advise buying or selling. Prices are free-market rates, and every trade's firm price is shown before you confirm.
