Gold & coins
Gold and coins: bullion, coins or jewellery?
Three common forms of gold in Iran, each priced differently. This guide explains the differences and what you are buying here.

Bullion
Gold per gram here is the price of one gram of bullion. It is built roughly from the world price of an ounce of gold and the free-market dollar rate, with no making charge and no premium. Bars are held in the vault by serial number, and the vault's holdings are reconciled with the books regularly.
Coins
The central bank's coins — the Emami and Bahar Azadi full coins, the half, quarter and gram coins — are struck from gold at 900 fineness. Each coin is an asset with its own price, because a coin's market price is usually above the value of its gold; that gap is called its premium, or ‘bubble’.
- Full coin: about 8.13 grams
- Half coin: about 4.06 grams
- Quarter coin: about 2.03 grams
- Gram coin: about 1 gram
Jewellery
Sarafi Iranian does not sell jewellery. Jewellery is 18-karat and carries, beyond the gold price, a making charge and tax that do not come back when you sell.
Taking it physically
Gold and coins you buy stay in the vault in your name. To take them, choose under Withdrawals: collection at a branch, or delivery to an address. The platform will not accept the request without that choice, because a withdrawal with nowhere to go is not an instruction.
