About the Emami full coin

The Emami full coin (new design) is the most traded gold coin in Iran: about 8.13 grams of gold at 900 fineness, minted by the central bank.

The Emami and the Bahar Azadi share a weight and fineness, but because their supply and demand differ, their market prices are not always the same.

What moves the price

  • The world gold price (per ounce) and the free-market dollar rate: together they set the value of the gold inside the coin.
  • The coin's premium, or ‘bubble’: the gap between its market price and the value of its gold, which rises and falls with demand, inflation expectations and central-bank supply.
  • The calendar: demand for the smaller coins usually rises before Nowruz and in the wedding season.

Common questions

What is a coin's premium?

The gap between the coin's market price and the value of the gold in it. A positive premium means the coin sells for more than its gold.

Why is the Emami dearer than the Bahar Azadi?

Though weight and fineness are identical, there is more demand for the Emami design, and the market pays more for it.

This page explains; it does not advise buying or selling. Prices are free-market rates, and every trade's firm price is shown before you confirm.
